Photoshop had some great PR this weekend, from very unexpected sources. On Sunday evening, during the premieres for two of the most popular shows on televison: Desperate Housewives and The West Wing – characters in both shows were dealing with documents and mentioned having the ability to use Photoshop to change them. In Desperate Housewives, it was Eva Longoria’s character doctoring a paternity test using Photoshop. In West Wing, Bradley Whitford’s character (Josh) holds up a Time magazine cover photo of presidential candidate Santos (Jimmy Smits) reading "President Santos?" and suggests that he have his wife "photoshop out the question mark." Two hits on the same premiere night, from general consumers promoting the same program – not too bad for a software program that has largely built its reputation as a tool for professional designers. If only both references weren’t to doctoring photos/documents in immoral ways …
